Lean Healthcare Course at Belmont University
The Pittsburgh Regional Health Initiative (PRHI) and Healthcare Performance Partners (HPP), a Nashville-based consulting firm, have offered a certificate program in Toyota Production System(TPS)/Lean-based healthcare process improvement at Belmont University’s School of Health Sciences in Nashville since 2008.
The five-day, "Lean Healthcare for Quality, Safety and Efficiency Certificate" program, is offered four times a year, using Belmont’s state-of-the-art facilities, which include health science simulation labs.
Use of TPS/Lean methods in health care is expanding significantly because of the increased pressure healthcare institutions face to improve patient safety and quality, including Medicare denying payment for some healthcare-acquired infections and egregious medical errors. The certificate program combines the strengths of PRHI and HPP, and allows them to greatly expand capacity for coaching TPS/Lean in healthcare institutions working on quality improvement.
