1/3/2006 - The Pittsburgh Regional Health Initiative kicks off Physician Champions program and establishes four Centers for Transforming Care
To encourage continued, significant improvements in healthcare quality in Southwestern Pennsylvania, and to spread those changes more broadly, PRHI, in partnership with the Allegheny County Medical Society and the Pennsylvania Medical Society, inaugurated the Physician Champions program. The program initially includes eight physicians practicing in six different settings. The eight emerged through a rigorous selection process that drew more than 30 physicians interested in applying PRHI's Perfecting Patient Caresm (PPC) principles to greatly improve safety or practice through evidence-based research projects.

7/14/2005 - Pittsburgh posts major reduction in healthcare-acquired infection
The Pittsburgh Regional Health Initiative, in conjunction with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, today announced that the region has achieved a 63% reduction in the rate of central line-associated bloodstream infections. This unprecedented, 3-year collaboration among the partner hospitals of the region and the CDC has produced a significant result.
