Perfecting Patient Caresm Principles: A New Educational Export
PRHI offers powerful resources for healthcare improvement and a new way to use them. Teaching Perfecting Patient Caresm (PPC) principles through an open university, a customized university, and a customized, one-day session brings those interested in improving health care at the point of patient care closer to success. The engaging curriculum, developed and taught by PRHI staff, puts Southwestern Pennsylvania on the map as an intellectual center for the healthcare quality engineering movement.
Why Learn PPC?
PPC aims to eliminate errors, inefficiency and waste in complex systems through continuous improvement and standardization of work practices. The PPC approach empowers people at every level of an organization to improve and redesign their own work to fulfill a common mission. The results are satisfied customers and patients, satisfied and engaged staff, and an organization that can adjust to a constantly changing environment with a constancy of purpose.
PPC enables the design of work processes that reveal problems rather than hide them, and establishes mechanisms to tackle problems immediately through root-cause analysis and rapid-cycle experimentation with countermeasures. The approach yields incremental improvements in care, reduction in waste and errors, and lower costs.
PPC moves problem solving out of the conference room and on to the front lines of caregiving—since the true experts in improving any work process are the people doing the work. The result is a workplace community of scientists who can make continuous improvements as they work.
